Our team of providers includes an Internal Medicine/Infectious Disease Physician, three Family Nurse Practitioners, a Certified Nurse Midwife, contracted Dentist, Mental Health Counselor, contracted consulting Psychiatrist, Registered Dietician and two volunteer Pediatricians. We also have clinical support staff, case managers, and community health educators to provide comprehensive health services for you and your family.
Dr. J. Craig Charles
Dr. J. Craig Charles, Affinity Health Center’s Medical Director, is an Internal Medicine physician with a specialty in Infectious Diseases. He has been instrumental in Affinity’s growth and has been caring for patients here since 2001 as a contracted Infectious Disease Specialist for Catawba Care. Dr. Charles attended University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Alabama School of Medicine and Wake Forest University. He is a former Hospitalist at Piedmont Medical Center and has been in practice since 1998. He lives in Rock Hill.
Julie Blackman, CNM
Julie Blackman, Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM), was born “down under’ in Australia and moved frequently with her diverse and large family, finally settling in North Carolina at the age of 15. Julie attended North Carolina State University originally as a biology major, then transferred to East Carolina University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1997. She worked in a variety of clinical settings and research with a focus on women’s health for 10 years. After getting married, she officially pursued her career in advanced practice nursing and received her Master of Science in Nursing with concentration in midwifery from East Carolina University in 2007. Prior to joining Affinity in May of 2017, Julie worked as a CNM at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC for approximately 8 years managing prenatal care and providing gynecologic services. She and her husband reside in Fort Mill with their two children.
Amber Hinson, FNP
Amber was born and raised in Faith, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 with a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She then continued her education at Winston-Salem State University where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2007. After working as a nurse in the Emergency Department at Stanly Regional Medical Center and in Smith Heart and Vascular at Novant Health-Rowan, she decided to further her education and obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, at Gardner-Webb University. While attending Gardner-Webb, she and her family of five moved to a large trailer park in Lancaster, South Carolina in order to begin a ministry, The Connection. Amber provides compassionate primary care to her patients. She enjoys spending time with her husband of nine years, Grant, and their four young children.
Laura Kilgus, FNP
Laura is originally from Columbia, SC but moved around a bit and landed in Charlotte about 4 years ago. She began her journey as a nurse 9 years ago working as a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse exclusively until receiving her MSN and became certified in primary care. She joined Affinity Health Center in order to help improve access to care for those who may otherwise not be able to receive it. "I firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to receive competent and compassionate healthcare. I am very excited to begin my career here and very thankful for the opportunity to serve with such wonderful people!"
Dr. Jonathan Wilson
Dr. Jonathan Wilson hails from Augusta, GA where as one of five rough and tumble boys there was frequently opportunities to practice emergency medicine. He attended Covenant College where he studied Economics and Community Development, which focused on whole person and dignifying poverty alleviation. After teaching school, working in the inner city, and participating in international medical trips he decided to embark on a career in medicine so went back to Augusta to attend the Medical College of Georgia. During medical school he was awarded a Fogarty Fulbright in Public Health and spent a year doing HIV research in South Africa. He recently finished his family medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC and is board certified. He is passionate about seeing his patients thrive and get high quality care in our ever increasing complex, expensive, and exclusive healthcare system.
Tracie Young, FNP
Tracie Young, FNP was reared in Grenada, Mississippi, and always desired to see the world, believing that the only way to respect and accept cultural diversity is to go outside of your personal boundaries. She graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Years later after functioning in multi-disciplines of nursing, she decided to grasp the educational/occupational opportunity to become a (FNP) family nurse practitioner. Tracie attended South University in Savannah, GA, where she earned her Master of Science In Nursing. Tracie has an eagerness to promote and provide quality healthcare, and, believes that standing in the gap and advocating for quality healthcare is a mission and ministry. Tracie believes that it takes determined leaders to connect bridges of quality healthcare. She believes we can.
Katie Laney, LISW, LCAS
Katie Laney is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and a Licensed Certified Addictions Specialist. Ms. Laney has a B.A. with a double major in Psychology and Communication Studies and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She provides therapeutic services individually to adults who are facing life transitions and personal, relationship, career, and physical/mental health-related problems. She has more than eleven years’ experience as a clinical therapist and addictions counselor working in non-profit agencies, outpatient substance abuse treatment centers, and medical settings. Ms. Laney previously worked as a behavioral health provider in an HIV medical clinic in Durham, NC. Her areas of expertise include treating individuals with HIV/AIDS, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse issues.
Dr. Susan Collins
Dr. Susan M Collins has practiced dentistry in Rock Hill for 30 years. She obtained her dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She then completed a one year residency at Carolinas Medical Center earning membership into the Federation of Special Care Organizations in Dentistry and the American Association of Hospital Dentistry. She has 3 grown children that have all ventured out on their own so she can now enjoy quiet evenings at home with her husband and 2 cats.
Dr. Charles W. Culp
Charles W. Culp DMD is originally from Rock Hill, South Carolina. He attended Clemson University where he earned a degree in Biological Sciences and graduated with summa cum laude honors. He then pursued a doctoral degree in dental medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Following his graduation from dental school in 2011, he moved back to the Rock Hill area to practice general dentistry. He joined his father's dental practice, Culp Dental, PA, where he continues to work. Dr. Culp has been treating dental patients at Affinity Health Center since 2013.
