Facts On COVID-19 Vaccination

COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older in the United States for the prevention of COVID-19. There is currently no FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine for children younger than age 6 months. CDC recommends that people stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination. All vaccines currently available in the United States are bi-valent vaccines. That means they are effective on the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 (BA.4/BA.5) variants of SARS-CoV-2.

  • What Exactly is COVID?

SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes the illness known as COVID-19 or COVID. COVID-19 can have a wide range of symptoms from mild to life threatening. Some people may not have any symptoms at all, know as an asymptomatic infection. Even though someone with COVID-19 doesn't feel sick, they can still transmit the virus to others. Some common symptoms are cough, stuffy nose, fever, headache, loss of the sense of smell and/or taste, rash, trouble breathing, fatigue, and more. Since these symptoms can be mistaken for other illnesses, it's important to get tested for COVID-19 if you think you have it or have had recent close contact with someone who does.

  • Seeking Medical Care for COVID-19

If you've been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or have tested positive for COVID-19, you should take steps to avoid passing it to others. Some things you can do are: stay home or away from others, wear a face covering when around other people and let people you have been close to know they may have been exposed. Most people recover with rest, staying hydrated and treating their symptoms as needed. If you are having trouble breathing, become very weak or confused seek medical attention by calling 911. If you have questions or are concerned by your symptoms contact your medical provider for guidance.
