National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day Event

Get tested, know your status. Gift card to the first 20 people tested for HIV at Affinity Health Center on February 7, 2018 during our regular testing hours between 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. This year’s event marks the 18th year for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), a national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative targeted at Blacks in the United States and the Diaspora. NBHAAD was founded in 1999 as a national response to the growing HIV and AIDS epidemic in African American communities.

The NBHAAD initiative leverages a national platform to educate, bring awareness, and mobilize the African American community. NBHAAD has four key focus areas which encourage people to:

Get Educated about HIV and AIDS;
Get Involved in community prevention efforts;
Get Tested to know their status; and
Get Treated to receive the continuum of care needed to live with HIV/AIDS

Join us on February 7th. Get tested, learn more about HIV, and share what you learned using #SOLVEHIV #NBHAAD18 on social media.

Better Access Is One Step Closer

Affinity Health Center is one step closer to providing better access to comprehensive quality healthcare in York County. You and your family will find it easier to get an appointment and have access to expanded services like dental and mental health when we move to our new building this summer. It’s sad to think about leaving our current building behind. On the upside, we’ll be right around the bend and we’re hoping to gain a great neighbor when it sells. If your business or organization is in the market for a new home, this one is well loved and maintained. Plus, you can’t beat the beautiful location in Tech Park South.

Welcome Laura Kilgus, FNP to the Affinity Team

Join us in welcoming our newest team member, Laura Kilgus, FNP! We asked Laura to tell everyone a little about herself and why she chose Affinity; “I am originally from Columbia, SC but moved around a bit and landed in Charlotte about 4 years ago. I began my journey as a nurse 9 years ago working as a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse exclusively until I received my MSN and became certified in primary care. I joined Affinity Health Center in order to help improve access to care for those who may otherwise not be able to receive it. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to receive competent and compassionate healthcare. I am very excited to begin my career here and very thankful for the opportunity to serve with such wonderful people!”

Affinity Expands Contraceptive Services

Women want options. After months of planning, we’re now able to provide more low maintenance birth control options to our patients. Our women’s health team at the Fort Mill satellite site had the honor of placing Affinity’s first IUDs and contraceptive implants this week. Congratulations to Fort Mill team members, Certified Nurse Midwife, Julie Blackman (right) and Medical Office Assistant, Jackie Brown (left) along with the hard work of many Affinity staff and community partners that helped make this happen. If you want to know more about these long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), ask about contraceptive options at your next appointment.
